Obituary of Donald R. Baughman

Princeville – Donald R. Baughman, 79, of Princeville, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Proctor Hospital Emergency Department.

Don was born on February 9, 1930, in Canton, the son of Marion J. Baughman, Sr. & Mildred Bryant Baughman Locher.  He married Wilma “Willy” Wieland on September 13, 1953, in Princeville.  Willy survives, along with one son, Dr. Douglas W. Baughman of Peoria; one brother-in-law, Robert Alltop of Carman, IL; two nieces, Carol Sue Peugh & Mary Lynn Coffin, both of Burlington, IA; and one nephew, Michael Alltop of Whiteland, IN.  Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Marion J. Baughman, Jr., and one sister, Marthajean Alltop.

Don served in the US Army for four years in both Japan & Korea during the Korean Conflict and was awarded The Purple Heart.  He worked as an engineer for the Santa Fe Railway for 40 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a 64 year member of the Princeville United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Princeville VFW Gold Star Post #1255, a member of the Historical Association of Princeville, and a member of the Santa Fe Railroad Retirees Club.

He was also a life member of the Princeville Masonic Lodge #360, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Temple, Shrine, and the Mohammed Directors Staff, participating in numerous out-of-state and local parades.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home.  Rev. Marc Brown will officiate.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Masonic Rites accorded by his lodge at 8:00.  Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, with Military Rites accorded.

Memorial contributions may be made to Princeville United Methodist Church, Akron-Princeville Ambulance Service, or to the American Cancer Society.
