Obituary of Charles M. Hoffman

Dunlap – Charles M. Hoffman, 95, a resident of Manor Court, Peoria, formerly of Dunlap, died at 4:08 a.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Manor Court.

Charles was born November 10, 1913, in Peoria County, the son of Charles Frederick and Juanita Hunt Hoffman.  He married Velma Lorene Harlan on March 21, 1936, in Peoria.  She preceded him in death on February 8, 1979, in Peoria.  Also preceding him in death are his parents, one daughter, Sharon Fredericks, one brother, Harold, and two sisters, Isabelle Hoffman and Blanche Stear.

Surviving is one son, Dale R. (Barb) Hoffman of Peoria; one daughter, Doris Hoffman of San Jose, CA, one son-in-law, Ray Fredericks of Missouri City, TX; four grandchildren, Michelle (Ray) Fisher of Hanna City, Diane (Rob) Fritche of Cypress, TX, Jeff (Erika) Hoffman of Mackinaw, and Don (Sarah) Hoffman of Washington; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister Phyllis Wilcoxen of Urbana, IL.

He worked as a Lathe Operator for Caterpillar at Building HH for 39 years, retiring in 1979.  He was a member of UAW Local #974.  After retiring from Cat, he was a chauffeur for Jumer’s Castle Lodge.  He enjoyed a good road trip to find a great piece of pie.

Charles was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009.  Rev. Dr. Curt Keller will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.  Burial will be in Dickison Cemetery, rural Dunlap.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Prospect United Methodist Church.
