Obituary of Bessie Violet Juliusson

Bessie Violet Juliusson, 78, of Peoria died on January 3, 2009, at 7:35 a..m. at the Manor CareBessie Violet Juliusson Nursing Home at Liberty Village in Peoria.  She was formerly of Dunlap.  The cause of death was complications from non-Hodgkins lymphoma. 

She was born on December 12, 1930, in Peoria to Victor Ernest Jacobson and Violet Mae Jacobson (Gates). She married Ben Evert Juliusson on June 24, 1951 in Peoria.  He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Steven (Anne) Juliusson of Winnetka, Illinois and Timothy Juliusson of Chicago, and one granddaughter, Annika, of Winnetka.

Bess was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter.

A graduate of Dunlap High School and Brown’s Business College, Bess was a housewife most of her life.  She was also a receptionist for Collins-Bellas Clinic and Dr. Robert DeBord; worked in the purchasing department at Caterpillar; was co-owner of the Whip ice cream stand in Princeville; opened new accounts at Pioneer Bank, was hostess/cashier at the Sterling Family Restaurant and the Dixie Café, and showed model homes at Liberty Village Retirement Community.

Bess was also involved in many charitable activities and social organizations, including singing with the Belles of Harmony for 5 years, volunteering at Proctor Hospital for 20 years and being a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap for 54 years.

Bess was a devoted mother, wife, and friend.  Service to others was a central part of her life.  Organized, caring and detail-oriented, genuine, likeable and a good listener, Bess was a true “people-person” who made enduring friendships wherever she went.

Bess enjoyed spending time with her family, relatives and friends, maintaining her home,
baking and trying out new recipes.  She loved singing, music, ballroom dancing and updating her photo albums.

Visitation for Bess will be on Monday, January 5, 2009, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Prospect United Methodist Church, 300 E. Ash St. in Dunlap.  Celebration of Life Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Prospect United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Mary Kathryn Pearce will officiate.  Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery in Dunlap.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Prospect United Methodist Church, Dunlap.
