Obituary of Richard E. Mathisen

Peoria – Richard E. (Dick) Mathisen, 87, of Peoria, formerly of Princeville, died at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2009, at his residence.

Dick was born August 15, 1921, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Einar J. and Borghild Larsen Mathisen.  He married Darlene M. Wilcox on August 12, 1950, in Moline.  She died April 21, 2006, in Henry.  Also preceding him in death are his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda (and Rick) Schupbach of Princeville, and Nancy (and Kirk) Potter of Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.  He was a member of the VFW Gold Star Post #1255 and the Princeville American Legion Post #248.  Dick was a carpenter and general contractor, building many homes in the Princeville area.

Cremation has been accorded.  Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.  Pastor Nollan Harwood will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to memorial services at the funeral home.  Burial of ashes will be in Princeville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
