Obituary of Dorothy Lorraine Schubert

Peoria – Dorothy Lorraine Schubert, 94, of Peoria, formerly of Minneapolis & Albuquerque, NM, died at 6:19 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009, at Manor Court, where she has been a resident since February 11, 2007.

Dorothy was born December 25, 1914, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Edward & Elsie Jopke Loge.  She married Gilbert W. Schubert on December 31, 1933 in Juno, WI.  He preceded her in death on October 28, 1959, in Peoria.  Also preceding her in death was one son, Richard G. Schubert, and one sister, Jean Van Willigan.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara J. (and Wayne) Thell of Minneapolis, Katherine A. (and Pat) David of Rockport, TX, and Susan E. Hofer of Princeville; seven grandchildren, April Hoff & Rebekkah Chriscoe, Kristi Raven & Kerri Nichols, and Harry Hofer, Tim Hofer, & Tricia Schupbach; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a niece, nephew, and their families.

Dorothy was a member of the former Alta (IL) Presbyterian Church. She worked as a filing manager for Caterpillar for over 20 years, retiring in 1979.  Dorothy spoke often of the many young people that worked in her area. Carpooling friends enjoyed her love of Ford Mustangs.

Dorothy was a voracious reader, solitaire, and board game player. She crocheted miles of blankets that still warm friends and relatives. Dorothy was the consummate grandmother. At home or the theater, hundreds of movies were watched with grandkids.

Her independence allowed her to travel often. And, she lived in three different regions of the country as a way to be close to different family members. Under her guidance, bi-annual "SchubertFests" kept a far-spread family of aunts, uncles, and cousins very close over the years. Her smile and laughter made her a "great audience" for numerous family performances over the years.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be announced at a later date with burial of ashes in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.

The family would like to thank Manor Court and Community Hospices of America for their care and concern. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Central Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, is in charge of arrangements.
