Obituary of Hazel Marie Mercer Taylor

Dunlap – Hazel Marie Mercer Taylor, 83, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009, at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.

She was born on January 18, 1926, in Gallatin, MO, the daughter of Richard C. & Martha Albrecht Mercer.  Hazel & William R. Taylor, Sr, were married on January 10, 1946, in Missouri.  They shared a life of travel with the U.S. Air Force.  He preceded her in death in November 2005, in Utah.  Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Barbara Moffit & Maggie Gates; two brothers, Lloyd Mercer & Howard Mercer, and a step-grandson.

Surviving is a son, William R. Taylor, Jr. & his wife, Mikki; and a daughter, Ginger Lee Magner; a brother, R.C. Mercer & his wife, Margaret; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Mercer, Virginia Allington, & Patricia Grieves; and a brothers-in-law, James N. Taylor & Sam Gates; lots of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, & nieces & nephews.

Hazel was very fortunate in her lifetime to see much of the United States and was able to travel abroad and see several countries.  While living in England, Hazel volunteered in the Red Cross as a Gray Lady (similar to a nurses aide), and in 1960 she became a member of the NCO Wives Club at both Bentwaters and Woodbridge AFB’s in England.. She followed her husband whenever she could with their children.  For 30 years Hazel operated Kountry Kurl Beauty Shop out of her home in Dunlap, retiring in 2001.

Funeral services for Hazel will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.  Rev. Mary Kathryn Pearce will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, near Chillicothe.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dunlap Fire & Rescue Squad.

Mom, may you now be in peace and no longer in pain.  We know that our Heavenly Father and your family will be waiting to welcome you with open arms.  With all our love, we will miss you.  Your surviving family.
