Obituary of Robert J. Berchtold

Edelstein - Robert J. Berchtold, 83, of Edelstein, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Heartland Health Care Center, Henry.

Robert was born October 1, 1926, in Edelstein, the son of Albert and Freida R. Streitmatter Berchtold.  He married Doris Mae Taylor on March 2, 1951, in Edelstein.  She died May 13, 1977, in Peoria.  Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Cindy Okerberg.

Surviving are one daughter, Roberta Berchtold of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Tiffany (Ed) Fleming of Lacon, Chelsey (Brian Siminak) Okerberg of Trevor, WI, Brenton Okerberg of Chillicothe, and Bryant Okerberg of Edelstein; four great-grandchildren, Teagan Fleming, Emmy Fleming, Tucker Ziminak, and Zane Ziminak; one son-in-law, Paul Okerberg; one sister-in-law, Dona Bell of Edelstein; and one niece, Barbara Scheppele of Edelstein.

Robert was in the Air National Guard, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant.  He farmed all his life in the Edelstein area.  Robert was a member of the Peoria Masonic Shrine.

Robert was also a member of the 1st English Lutheran Church, Peoria, where funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2010.  Rev. Dr. James Lillie will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, and one hour prior to funeral service at the church on Monday.  Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria.
