Obituary of John Edward Bridson

Princeville – John Edward Bridson, 75, of Princeville, passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, on Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at 12:58 p.m. from the effects of sepsis following surgery.

He was born January 10, 1935, in Millbrook Township, to Cecil and Elizabeth Fairfield Bridson.  On April 28, 1962, he married Sally Ann Gilles at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Princeville.  To this union were born four children, Julie (Mark) Milner of Auburn, IL, Valerie (Rodney) Massman of Columbia, MO, Dan (Lynne) Bridson of Princeville, and Jill (Dean) Magro of Lowell, IN.  John is also survived by 9 much loved grandchildren, Nicholas & Matthew Milner, Alyssa & Katie Massman, Reece, Devan Elizabeth, & Weston Bridson, and Derek & Hope Magro.  Two sister-in-laws also survive, Guyneth Bridson and Susan Bridson.  John was preceded in death by five siblings, George, Donald, and Joe Bridson, Helen Birnbaum, and Margaret Barrett.

John was a 1954 graduate of Elmwood High School.  He farmed nine years with his father-in-law, Edwin in Millbrook Township, then with Sally as his helper for 33 years near Laura, retiring to Princeville in 2004 because of health problems.

He was a hard working man and a very loving husband, dad, and grandpa.  He loved football and college basketball, and watching the grandkids compete and perform.

John was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Princeville, where a funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010.  Father Patrick Riordan will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, with recitation of rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery, Princeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church, Akron/Princeville Fire Department, or to Akron/Princeville Ambulance Service.
