Obituary of Thelma B. Cropin

Princeville – Thelma B. Cropin, 96, of Princeville, passed away peacefully at 4:37 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Washington Christian Village, Washington, IL, where she was a resident for the past year.

Thelma was born January 13, 1914, at Whittaker’s corner near Laura, Illinois, the daughter of John Cyrus and Grace Lowe King.  She married John R. Cropin on August 7, 1937, in Niles, IL.  He died July 7, 2002, in Peoria.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirlyn (Conrad) Ratcliff-McPherson of Cary, NC, and Eleen (Rodney) Emberson of Paxton, IL; one son, Rick (Debbie) Cropin of Princeville, IL; 4 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.  Her parents, three grandsons, one great-grandson, and one brother, Sherman King preceded her in death.

Thelma was a graduate of Williamsfield High School.  After graduation she went to Chicago to work and that is where she met John.  They married and then moved to Princeville in 1946.  Thelma worked at Christ’s Bakery, Princeville High School Cafeteria, and the Princeville Canning Company.  She also was a cook at Proctor Hospital. 

Thelma was a member of the Peoria County Home Extension for many years, a member of Royal Neighbors of American, and the Princeville Art Guild.  She also was a 60 year member of the First Presbyterian Church.  She and John enjoyed wintering in Titusville, FL, for 20 years.

Funeral services will be Noon Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.  Pastor Troy Agema will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service.  Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery, Princeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Akron/Princeville Ambulance Service, Akron/Princeville Fire Department, or Washington Christian Village.
