Obituary of Cecil L. Dallinger

Princeville – Cecil L. Dallinger, 84, of Princeville, died at 7:48 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.

Cecil was born May 4, 1925, in Carlock, the son of Rudolf & Emelia Rabel Dallinger.  He married Ethel I. Burns on April 3, 1949, in Peoria.  She survives, along with a daughter, Cathi J. (Tom) Sprecher of Galesburg; a son-in-law, Leland Grigg of Princeville; one sister, Cecelia (Darwin “T-Bone”) Ewers of Washington, IL; one brother, Loren (Barb) Dallinger of Princeville; four grandchildren, Dan Sprecher & Kara Bent, and Nick & Angela Grigg; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary & Olivia Sprecher, and Wade Bent.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Grigg, four sisters and two brothers.

He served in the U.S. Army, and then was with the 182nd Tactical Fighter Group of the Illinois Air National Guard for 23 years, working in armor & as a radar technician, and retiring as Master Sergeant First Class. He then worked as a truck driver for S&F Trucking in Princeville for 20 years.

He was past president and sang lead with the Peoria Chapter of SPEBSQSA for over 25 years.  He was past president and charter member of the Princeville Lions Club and member and past president of the Princeville Civic Association.  He was a member of the Historical Association of Princeville, and served on the Princeville School Board.

He was a member & Elder of First Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2010.  Rodger Cowser will officiate.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery with military rites accorded.
