Obituary of Master Sergeant Dennis C. Fleming
He was born June 14, 1947, in Peoria, the son of Arthur & Grace Fugate Fleming. He married Pam Ely Pierce in Peoria on March 19, 1999. She survives, along with his mother of Peoria; three sons, Dennis Fleming of Princeville, Evan (Me’gan) Fleming of Green Valley, and Clay Fleming of Princeville; two daughters, Denise Mathis and Keri Noel, both of Creve Coeur; step-daughter, Sara Pierce of Chillicothe; ten grandchildren and nieces & nephews; one brother, Gary (Evelyn) of Blaine, KS; and one sister, Gina Fleming of Creve Coeur. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Ronnie. A graduate of East Peoria High School, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge he served in the Army Reserve, then served with the Illinois Air Guard 182nd Tactical Unit in Bartonville, retiring after 26 years serving in the military. Dennis worked for Caterpillar as a Quality Control Inspector for 35 years, retiring May 1, 2000. He was a member of the American Quarter horse Association, American Foundation Quarter Horse Association, and the American Paint Horse Association. He was also a member of VFW Post 1255 and UAW 974. He loved his family and friends. He could tell a great story and liked a good poker game. Cremation has been accorded. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, where a memorial service will take place at 2:00. Rev. Ardith Corsaw will officiate.
