Obituary of Robert M. Hale
Galesburg – Robert M. “Bob” Hale, 89, of Galesburg, formerly of Williamsfield, died at 11:55 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2010, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
Bob was born November 15, 1920, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Joseph Mack and Masouria Camp Hale. He first married Maxine Canon and then later married Maurine U. Rice on December 24, 1955, in Galesburg. She died March 9, 2008, in Peoria.
Surviving are one son, Bill (Cindy) Hale of Williamsfield, four daughters, Sandy Swank of Galesburg, Bobbie (Walter) Philbee of Elmore, Sherry (Jack) Bremer of Oak Run, and Judy (Ronnie) Rice of Victoria; one step-son, Steve (Carol) Camp of Trivoli; one step-daughter, Joan Bitner of Monica; and one sister-in-law, Irma Hale of Florida. He will be loved and missed by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Three brothers, three grandsons, and one step-granddaughter preceded him in death.
Bob was a 1938 graduate of Galesburg High School, where he and his brother were male cheerleaders. Bob also was a World War II Army Veteran. He worked as a timekeeper for the Burlington-Northern Railroad for 35 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Galesburg Masonic Lodge and was a friend of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, Monica United Methodist Church, and the Alturas Methodist Church, Alturas, FL. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, and square dancing. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. Bob’s friends will remember him as a sweet “gentleman”.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Randy Douglass will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
