Monica – Merle W. Johnson, 89, of Peoria, formerly of rural Monica, died at 2:26 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.
Merle was born August 29, 1921, in Peoria, the son of William Chester and Clara Zweifel Johnson. He married Margaret Eileen Fussner on December 3, 1941, in Springfield, IL. She died December 24, 2003, in Peoria.
Surviving are 2 brothers, Glenn (Verna) Johnson of Brimfield, and Paul Johnson of Peoria; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and one brother, Willard Johnson, preceded him in death.
He and his wife farmed in Jubilee Township most of their lives. He also worked at Hiram Walker in Peoria, for many years. He was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Brimfield.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Pastor Michael Liese will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services. Burial will be in Princeville Cemetery.
