Obituary of Doreen C. Meyer

Peoria – Doreen C. Meyer, 74, a resident of Apostolic Christian Skylines, Inc., formerly of Lester, Iowa, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the home.

She was born near Lester Iowa on June 12, 1935, the daughter of Alvia & Emma Metzger Meyer.

She attended Allison #3 and Lester Elementary School.  She received her high school diploma through a correspondence course.  She worked in Sioux Falls doing office work until moving to Peoria in 1959, where she worked at Travis Cadillac and Haggerty Steel.

She became a member of the Princeville Apostolic Christian Church in 1963.  She moved to Lester, IA, in 1974 to care for her mother. After her mother’s death in 2006, Doreen moved back to Peoria and has resided at Apostolic Christian Skylines until her death.

She is survived by six sisters, Mary Lou (Don – dec’d) Streitmatter of Princeville, Carolyn (Robert) Banwart, Margaret (Eli) Grimm, and Irene (Dean- dec’d) Banwart, all of West Bend, IA, Polly (Norman) Zaugg of Rolfe, IA, and Lila (Mike) Wirtz of Goodfield; three brothers, George (Charlyn- dec’c) Meyer of Lester, IA, Raymond (Twyla) Meyer of Rock Rapids, IA, and Earl (Barb) Meyer of Brandon, SD; and 23 nieces & 23 nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and two great-nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Apostolic Christian Church, Princeville.  Ministers of the church will officiate.  Visitation will be from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, and also from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Friday at the church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.
