Obituary of Alfred D. Streitmatter

Princeville – Alfred D. Streitmatter, 77, of Princeville, died peacefully surrounded by his family at 10:36 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at his residence.

He was born October 24, 1932, at Speer, IL, the son of Jeff & Martha Siebenthal Streitmatter.  He married Virginia “Ginny” Bauman on December 18, 1955, in Morton, IL.  Ginny survives, along with seven children, Cindy (Rod) Schmidt of Longmont, CO, Barb (Phil) Ehnle of Princeville, Alan (Janet) Streitmatter of Speer, Doug (Cindy) Streitmatter of Princeville, Scott (Amanda) Streitmatter of Dunlap, Beth (Curt) Feucht of Eureka, and Dawn (Scott) Schick of Morton; 26 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Doris (Orval-dec.) Rocke of Sarasota, FL, Geraldine Streitmatter of Princeville, Paul (Mary-dec.) Streitmatter of Dunlap, Jeff (Ruth) Streitmatter of Sarasota, FL, and Shirley (David-dec.) Kieser of Princeville; and in-laws, Wilmer (Sylvia-dec.) Blunier of Roanoke, Mary L. (Don-dec.) Streitmatter of Princeville, and Pearline (Vernon-dec.) Streitmatter of Washington, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and six siblings, Mildred Huber, Lucille Beyer, Sylvia Blunier, Vernon Streitmatter, Don Streitmatter, and an infant sister, Verna Streitmatter.

Alf was a U.S. Army veteran serving two years in LaRochelle, France.  He farmed for a number of years at Speer.  He was co-owner of Economy Builders in Princeville from 1980 until retiring in 1994.  Currently he owned AD Storage Company.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending part of his winters in Florida with his wife Ginny, family, and friends.  Alf dearly loved his family and grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Princeville, where he served as a trustee, Sunday School teacher, and served on the building committee of the fellowship hall.  He volunteered at the Apostolic Christian Skylines and the Midwest Food Bank.

Funeral services for Alf will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Apostolic Christian Church, Princeville.  Ministers of the church will officiate.  Visitation will be from 2 to 4:00 p.m. & 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Princeville Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall, and also from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peoria Apostolic Christian Skylines, Inc, or Methodist Hospice Services.
