Obituary of Charles L. Dravis
Peoria – Charles L. Dravis, 82, a Peoria resident for the past seven years, a former long-time resident of Springfield, died at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Proctor Hospital Emergency Department.
Charles was born April 28, 1928, in Waukon, IA, the son of Alfred C. and Ruth G. Hermanson Dravis. He married Mary Alice “Peggy” Biddle on November 7, 1954, in Newman, IL. Peggy preceded him in death on May 30, 2005, in Peoria.
Surviving is a daughter, Mary Lou (Joe) Hott of Princeville; two grandchildren, Alan (fiancé Ashlee Plant) Hott of Las Vegas, NV, and Rachel (John) Watterson of Springdale, AR; and one brother, Robert (Janet) Dravis of East Moline, IL.
He was a U. S. Army veteran.
Charles came to Springfield in 1953 to work for the Office of the Secretary of State under Charles Carpentier. In 1965 he began working for the Illinois State Board of Education, retiring as Director of Accounting in 1985.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Springfield, where he served as a deacon, financial secretary, and choir member. He followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2011, at Staab Funeral Home, 1109 S. 5th St, Springfield. Rev. Dr. Randy Williams will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors.
