Obituary of Kenneth Robert Challacombe

Brimfield – Kenneth Robert Challacombe, 78, of Brimfield, died at 7:02 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Kenneth was born September 10, 1933, in Kickapoo, the son of Lee and Bertha Poole Challacombe. He married Jeanne Clark on January 4, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brimfield. She survives, along with two daughters, Diana Montag and Karen (Bret) Kingdon, both of Brimfield; three sons, Keith (Marci) Challacombe of Elmore, Jeff (Missy) Challacombe, and Kevin (Denise) Challacombe, both of Brimfield; twelve grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; son-in-law, Randy Peters of Brimfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie Peters, and one sister, Dorothy Lowry.

Kenneth graduated from Brimfield High School and was proud of the certificate he received for never missing a day of school. After high school he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955. He was a machine operator at Caterpillar for 40 years, retiring in 1991. Kenny was Superintendent for Brimfield Public Works Department and water operator until retiring in 1996. He was currently board member for the Brimfield Sanitary District. He enjoyed riding antique motorcycles and especially loved his cats. Kenny had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all that knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home in Princeville, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Cremation will be accorded after services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peoria Humane Society.
