Obituary of John Francis "Fran" Conley

Princeville – John Francis “Fran” Conley, 88, of Princeville, died at 12:33 p.m. Wednesday May, 23, 2012, at his residence.

Fran was born May 19, 1924, in Edelstein the son of John Patrick and Rose Anne Lynch Conley. He married Marcia Jo Harrington on June 17, 1961, in Arcola, Illinois. She died June 26, 2006, in Peoria.

Surviving are two sons, Tom (Jen) Conley of DeKalb, IL, and Patrick Conley of Princeville, IL; one daughter, Kelly (Larry) Gregory of East Peoria, IL; 6 grandchildren, Ellen & Nelle Conley of DeKalb, IL, and Madeline, Jack, Grace, & Drew Conley all of Peoria, IL; one sister, Rosene (Don) Schielein of Chillicothe, IL; one sister-in-law, Joyce Conley of Princeville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and one brother, James Edward “Red” Conley preceded him in death.

He was a United States Air Corps Veteran serving from 1942 until 1946, and was a member of the Princeville American Legion Post #248.

Fran was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service retiring in 1979. He then went to work for Security Savings & Loan. He was a member of Princeville Lion’s Club and the Princeville Heritage Museum Association. Fran was one of the first Red Coat Volunteers at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. He was an active member of the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Princeville, where he sang in the church choir. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Father Patrick Riordan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, with rosary at 7:00. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery, Princeville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
