Obituary of LeVonne Marie Hermes
Dunlap – LeVonne Marie Hermes, 82, of Dunlap died at 9:48 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Dunlap, comforted by family.
LeVonne was born at home January 18, 1930, in Peoria, the daughter of Robert and Frances Schoch Ellwanger. She married Frank J. Hermes, Jr. on July 5, 1952, in Peoria. He died August 13, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Franke (Claude) Keefer of Elmwood and Bonnie (Warren) Breitbarth of Dunlap; 4 grandchildren, Ashley (Dean) Bring, Nolan Breitbarth, Stacey Breitbarth, and Jean-Claude Keefer; and one sister, Beverly Baxter of Bartonville. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert J. Ellwanger, Jr.
After graduating from Woodruff High School in Peoria, Class of 1947, LeVonne was a telephone operator for Illinois Bell in the days of manual switchboards. She was a favorite lunch lady at Whittier School from 1969-1980 where she always had a smile and a hug for the kids. She was a Brownie Troop leader and most recently enjoyed being a volunteer at Proctor Hospital from 2001 - 2008. She loved playing games with family, oil painting, sewing, gardening and solving word search puzzles. She was a great lady and had a gift for making people laugh.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation; the family will have a private celebration of her life at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Catholic School in Peoria or the Elmwood Drug Dog in care of Farmer’s State Bank in Elmwood.
