Obituary of Everett E. Smith
Peoria – Everett E. Smith, Jr., 59, of Peoria, died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago.
He was born August 29, 1952, in Spring Valley, IL, the son of Everett E., Sr., and Samantha Pryor Smith. He married Christy J. Castle in Peoria on September 23, 1972. She survives, along with two sons, Bryan Smith of Superior, WI, Andrew Smith of Peoria, and Adam Kelley of Peoria, whom he considered his third son; three sisters, Brenda (John) Walker, Linda S. Smith, and Samantha (Eddie) King, all of West Peoria; eleven nieces and nephews; twelve great nieces and nephews; one great great nephew; and his dog, Maxx. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Cheryl Smith, and one nephew, Tyler Ingle.
Everett was a 1970 graduate of Peoria High School and worked for 41 years as a Journeyman out of Sheet Metal Local #1, retiring October 1, 2011. He was a member and EMT with the Limestone Township Fire Department for 17 years, leaving there as Chief. He was a coach with Limestone Jr. Soccer League, loved fishing, deer hunting, and target shooting, and was a member of Buck Snort Lodge in rural Princeville. He was co-owner of the Peoria County Boxing Club, a member of T&S Inc, a NASCAR and Dale Jr. fan, and always had hope for the Chicago Cubs.
Visitation for Everett will be from 3 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville. Following the visitation there will be a time for family and friends to share stories and remembrances about Everett. Cremation will be accorded and Everett’s final resting place will be in Destin, FL.
